Vet Clinic Painting on the Central Coast: Greencross Vets Case Study
Greencross Vets needed two standalone clinics on the Central Coast repainted without closing to patients. Our crew painted the insides after hours and the outside of the Tuggerah clinic over a weekend, and each clinic was ready for appointments every morning.
Greencross Vets Project Overview
Norwest Painting Group repainted two Greencross Vets clinics on the Central Coast in October 2024 for the maintenance contractor who brought us in for the Petbarn store in Singleton. Petbarn and Greencross Vets are separate businesses that belong to the same company. Both clinics had to keep seeing patients during the day, so the inside work was done at night.
At Erina, our crew of four repainted the inside of the clinic over four nights. At Tuggerah, the crew repainted the inside over four nights and the outside over a weekend. The outside of the Tuggerah clinic went from green to blue.
Why the Contractor Sent Us the Greencross Vets Clinics
After the Singleton store, the contractor gave Norwest all of his painting work, and that included the Greencross Vets clinics he maintains. Like a shop, a vet clinic needs to keep its doors open while it is painted. Appointments carry on through the day, so the painting had to fit around opening hours and the clinics could open as usual each day.

Initial Assessment and Clinic Conditions
Both clinics stayed open to patients through the painting.
Vet Clinics That Stayed Open
Both clinics kept seeing patients during the day. Once the last person had left, the staff handed the crew the keys, and the inside work was done overnight so each clinic opened as usual. Some animals stayed in overnight. They were kept in a room out of the way, and when the crew reached that room, which was painted last, the staff moved them into a finished room. We planned that with the staff before the painting started.
Older Standalone Clinic Buildings That Needed Thorough Preparation
Both clinics are large, older standalone buildings, and the walls and ceilings needed thorough preparation before any paint went on.
A New Exterior Colour for the Tuggerah Clinic
The outside of the Tuggerah clinic was green, and it was repainted blue over a weekend. The clinic was open on the Saturday, so the crew worked in sections that day to stay out of the way of staff and patients, then finished on the Sunday while the clinic was closed. The columns, fascia and upper walls were painted from scissor lifts. The paint system for each surface was:
- Outside walls: Dulux Weathershield Low Sheen
- Inside walls: Dulux Professional Low Sheen
- Doors and frames: Dulux Aqua Enamel Semi Gloss

Safety Before Any Paint Is Opened
Our crews work to a Safe Work Method Statement written for the job, and every painter completes the site induction before starting. We keep a register of every paint and chemical brought on site, with the safety data sheet for each one. All electrical equipment is tested and tagged, and the crew wears the PPE the site requires.
Plant and Access Equipment
Every piece of plant, such as a scissor lift or boom lift, is listed on a plant register and checked before it is used. At Tuggerah, scissor lifts gave the crew safe access to the columns, fascia and upper walls of the building.
Quality Checked at Every Stage
On commercial and builder projects, we work to the builder's or client's quality assurance plan, with each stage inspected and signed off before the next one starts. All work is done to the Building Code of Australia and the relevant Australian Standards, and the crew is supervised by licensed painters.
The After-Hours Vet Clinic Painting Process
Each night of inside work followed the same routine, from closing time to the next morning.
Setting Up the Clinic After Closing
Each night started as soon as the last person had left and the staff handed over the keys. The crew covered the floors, benches and equipment in the rooms being painted and masked the edges.
Preparing the Clinic Walls Before Painting
Walls were patched, filled and primed, and every wall and ceiling was pole sanded before the first coat, so the new paint went onto a smooth, sound surface.
Painting the Clinic Walls and Ceilings
The crew painted room by room and left the room with the animals until last. The walls and ceilings were sanded again between the second and third coats for a smooth finish.
Clinic Clean-Up Before Opening Each Morning
Before the clinic opened, the crew packed away the equipment and removed the covers, so the clinic could open as usual.
