Painting a Licensed Club While It Stayed Open: Mosman RSL Club Case Study
Mosman RSL Club stayed open while our crews painted the auditorium, the restaurant ceilings, the poker machine rooms, the offices and the outside of the restaurant, on and off over about a year and a half.
How the Mosman RSL Club Painting Came Together
Norwest Painting Group was referred to Mosman RSL Club by another trade, and we worked directly for the club in late 2024 and through 2025. The painting was done in stages, across around ten visits.
Inside, the crew painted the restaurant ceilings, the whole auditorium, the office areas, the poker machine rooms and the toilets. Outside, the restaurant's facade, the stair rails and several walls were repainted. In most areas the colours were matched to the existing walls and ceilings, and in some areas the new paint was blended with the existing colour to keep costs down for the club. Minor plaster repairs to the ceilings and walls were done before painting.

What the Club Needed From Its Painters
The club kept trading the whole time, so every visit was planned around the people using it.
Club Painting Around Members and Staff
Each work area was either closed off completely or taped off, so no one was in the way of the work. The crew worked eight-hour days, with some early starts for the toilets.
Matching the Club's Existing Paint Colours
In most areas the paint was matched to the existing walls and ceilings, including several feature walls. We used Dulux paint throughout, with Dulux Weathershield on the brick walls in the stairwells.
Plaster Repairs and Painting the Restaurant Facade
Minor plaster damage on the ceilings and walls was repaired before painting. Outside, the crew repainted the restaurant's facade, the stair rails and several walls, working from ladders. The areas painted inside were:
- Auditorium: the whole room
- Restaurant: the ceilings
- Poker machine rooms, office areas and toilets

Safety Before Any Paint Is Opened
Our crews work to a Safe Work Method Statement written for the job, and every painter completes the site induction before starting. We keep a register of every paint and chemical brought on site, with the safety data sheet for each one. All electrical equipment is tested and tagged, and the crew wears the PPE the site requires.
Plant and Access Equipment
Every piece of plant, such as a scissor lift or boom lift, is listed on a plant register and checked before it is used. At Mosman RSL Club, ladders gave the crew access to the facade, the stair rails and the stairwell walls.
Quality Checked at Every Stage
On commercial and builder projects, we work to the builder's or client's quality assurance plan, with each stage inspected and signed off before the next one starts. All work is done to the Building Code of Australia and the relevant Australian Standards, and the crew is supervised by licensed painters.

Plaster damage was repaired first. The area was then painted, with the colours matched or blended with the existing colour.
Finishing Each Club Painting Area
When an area was painted, we cleaned up, and when the area was dry, patrons could go back to using the space.
